  • Starting a project with Spring

    Dear Internet,

This might be the woring forum to post this, but I did not find any other suitable topic to put this.

We are a group of 3 developers that has an intention of creating a web service and found ourselves on this web site.
The project is about creating a simple web service that allows users to receive messages/notifications from the system. All messages and notifications are to be manually inserted by admins in the system. There is also an ambition that this service is able to communicate with other systems through an API.

So we are thinking about creating a server with a database, client-page, admin-page and then a API of some sort.

The problem is that none of us has any experience in creating such a system and we dont really know where to start. We began looking at Play Framework and now ended up looking at Spring, the biggest problem for us at the moment is that there is too many different frameworks and platforms and we cannot decide which to choose. We simply know too little about these things.

We have knowledge in Java programming, mySql, html/css, but we want to take it to the next level. We would greatly appreciate input and tips where to go next. Is Spring the right choice for us? or is it better for us to look for something simpler? something more basic?

    Best regards the three developers
