  • Facebook Application Access Token

What is the Facebook policy with respect to using an application access token for harvesting social data for various users, all related to my company, for use in our mobile applications? I had seen several comments suggesting that Facebook did not condone such use of application access tokens. However, since the tokens never expire, it would greatly simplify the implementation and management of our app.

    Any thoughts?

Again, blandger has given the correct answer here. I'm no lawyer and don't want to try to interpret Facebook's policies for you, so even though I think I understand what they require, I'm going to leave it up to you (and perhaps your organization's legal department) to decide whether or not what you want to do is in violation of their policies.

From a technical standpoint, however, I can say that an application access token doesn't have nearly as much power as a user access token. There are some things you can do with an application access token such as pull information from Facebook's Insights API or create test users. But if you want to fetch details about a specific user (such as their email, friends, likes, etc), then you're going to need a user access token that was authorized by that user.
