  • Using "near:" in Twitter

Hi, anyone know how to use the parameter "near:" with the API of Twitter?

Example of using with a browser: http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=near%3Aspain

    Thanks in advance.

If you're talking about doing that kind of search through Spring Social's Twitter API binding, then you should be able to do it by passing "near:spain" into SearchOperations.search(). You may get back slightly different results, though, due to the fact that search() uses Twitter's search API which is seemingly different than what you get at the URL you gave.

At https://dev.twitter.com/docs/using-search, where the search API is described, it explicitly says that "near:" isn't supported and that you should use geocodes instead. That may also contribute to the different results, but in my own testing, the "near:" operator seemed to work pretty well. But since they say it isn't supported, use with caution.

Thanks a lot, the problem is that the result for Spring Social's Twitter API binding for "near:spain" is "forbidden", as you said, it seems that it isn't supported, I'll investigate about geocodes.

Spring Social is a great project, thanks again.
