  • Log4j logging not working after move to new Tomcat

I have a Spring application that was running fine under Tomcat 6 on gentoo (and Windows). It is configured to use log4j logging.

I have now moved it to a new Linux box (Ubuntu, Tomcat 6.0.18) and find that no output is being produced by the logging statements, even if I change the application context to explicitly load the log4j configuration files.

I do get some JULI log entries in the Tomcat logs from various filters.

Is it not possible to continue with log4j logging while Tomcat itself uses JULI logging?

    Thanks in advance
    Horace

Does you tomcat instance have permissions to write to the logs?

I've had similar running grails apps that turn out to have nothing to do with the application.

Thanks for the hint. The problem shouldn't be permissions since all of the directories are owned by tomcat6, but changing the location of the file named in my file appender did allow me to start seeing my log output.

Never the less, the CONSOLE appender still does not add any output to any of the standard catalina logs. However I can live with using the file appender.

      Thanks
