  • Which templating engine to use with Spring MVC

    Hello,

I'm actually using Spring MVC with JSP/JSTL as the templating engine. I'm fine with it, although there could be some more html/form helpers as well as something like Struts' Tiles included.

I'd like to stay with Sprint MVC but thinking about using a different templating engine in further projects.

What templating engine would you use, in a new project?

I find Spring MVC plays very nicely with Tiles, and any more complex page-flows can easily be implemented using Spring WebFlow (which is superb) and Tiles.

I can't comment on WebWork or Tapestry.

Sure. But I don't want to include the whole struts just for using tiles. My .war is fat enough.

Anybody using JSF just for templating?

I believe I saw a story on TSS that said that Tiles had been separated out from the Struts jar. If your WAR is too large you could try to track this down. Besides, the WAR isn't really the problem, it's how many classes get class-loaded, surely?
