    Hey!

It looks like Maven is not able to download a certain artifact:

Are you behind a firewall/proxy? I am asking because this is often the root cause of those errors.
If you are behind a firewall/proxy, please take care to configure that correctly in STS/Eclipse (Preferences -> General -> Network Connections) and also configure this for Maven inside the settings.xml file (go to Preferences -> Maven -> User Settings to find the location of the settings.xml file, and then: http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-proxies.html).

    HTH,
    Martin

I got almost the same error message, my proxy settings were correct,
but the solution for me appeared to delete the whole directory of the component mentioned in the error message from local Maven repository.
When Maven downloaded poms from the Internet to my computer, connection was weak. And for some reason Maven allowed broken files to be stored in the repository.
So I deleted say 'org/apache/maven/plugins/maven-war-plugin/2.1.1' directory and repeated the build procedure: everything went ok!

            Hey!

Thanks for sharing your experiences and solutions here, much appreciated!!!

And I fully agree, Maven-related problems can often be solved by deleting the artifacts in the local repository to trigger Maven to download a fresh copy of them. Saw that as well many times.

            Cheers,
            -Martin
