  • Custom AuthenticationDao wiring question

    hiya,

first of all, thanks for excellent security framework that that's easy to integrate on Spring
powered J2EE application, Acegi really shines

I've provided custom authenticationDao mainly to populate UserDetails implementation using
Hibernate as a O/R bridge. After I've wired authenticationDao to Hibernate's sessionFactory,
should I wire it also as a service that supports transactions via HibernateTransactionManager or use it without transactions?

Using Hibernate, Spring, Acegi, Struts (with OpenSessionInViewFilter)

Generally you will not use transactions with AuthenticationDao because it only ever does a read (never an update/commit). At an isolation level you might want transactions if you had an update occur in the same transaction as the AuthenticationDao read, but generally this would not happen as logging on to an application typically represents a single logical web use case.
