  • double byte characters in username/password

My product used a custom JAAS login module for user authentication and it supported both single-byte extended characters and double-byte CJK characters in both username and password. It sends and receives everything in utf8 charset between browser and the server.

I replaced the JAAS login module with Spring Security's authentication pipeline and configured it to use form login. Everything works fine, except that I now lost the ability to use extended or double-byte characters in username or password. By the time my custom authentication provider is invoked, the double-byte characters in username/password in the authentication object is already broken. Somehow the information was lost during decoding of the data within Spring Security.

Can someone please lead me in the right direction as to how I can configure Spring Security to handle non-ASCII characters in username/password correctly?

Thanks in advance for your help.
