  • A Big Hop Forward: Spring Roo 1.1.0 Is Released!

After more than ten months of development and nearly 900 individual improvements, Spring Roo 1.1.0 has been released. Spring Roo is a lightweight developer tool that makes it fast and easy to deliver instant results for Java developers. Concurrent with the Spring Roo 1.1.0 GA release, the Google Web Toolkit, SpringSource Tool Suite, AspectJ and AJDT teams have completed supporting GA releases so that you can enjoy the latest versions of these tools all working nicely together.

There are numerous major new features in Roo 1.1.0, as detailed on our blog entry covering the release. Some of the major new features include:
    • Incremental Database Reverse Engineering
    • Spring MVC Enhancements
    • Google Web Toolkit (GWT) 2.1
    • Google App Engine (GAE)
    • Apache Solr Search Server
    • JSON Support
    • Serializable Add-On
    • Library Updates
    • Usability
    • Roo is now built on OSGi
    • Add-On Creation, Publication, RooBot and PGP Signature Security
    • Project Changes

Again, our blog entry contains detailed information about these new features. You can also download Spring Roo, read the reference guide, or follow @SpringRoo and the engineering team on Twitter to learn more.

We hope that you enjoy using Spring Roo 1.1.0 as much as we've enjoyed building it.

      STS support?

Great news, but what about STS?

The STS with Google integration version is stuck with Roo 1.1.0 M3. Should we download the standard STS version instead?

Spring ROO 1.1.0 and STS With Google integration - kinda doesn't work

The create Spring roo project wizard doesn't work. The default STS with Google integration comes with Roo M03 and if you download and set the default Roo version to the Release, when you click OK at the end of the create project wizard you'll get a never-ending roo prompt in that wizard. Yeah, it starts pushing roo prompts into the window and you need to force close it

Cannot run as web application (GAE)

Another problem, I followed the steps here:

          http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/do...l/roo-sts.html

but after importing in STS there was no option to 'Run as..' 'Web application' (ie with Google App Engine's developer server)

          -g.

Its seems the Google Eclipse plugin update site is still using the GWT 2.0.4. You can see this if you put the link http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.6 into the install new software in eclipse. Can someone request they update the SDK to GWT 2.1?

Is the new release compatible with Spring Surf?

                  Hello,

I am testing Spring Roo with Surf. The commands explained in the documentation like the following do not seem to work with this new version:

                  roo>surf template create --path news

Has this command been replaced with a new one?

Thanks in advance for any help.
                  Ben

                    Thanks for the congratulatory messages.

The STS with Google Integration now includes Roo 1.1.0, GWT 2.1.0 and the latest GPE.

Ben, re the Spring Surf add-on, you'll need to ask the developers of that add-on. You might also want to point them at the substantial improvements made in Roo 1.1 to add-on discovery and distribution and invite them to leverage these so more people can find their add-on. If they need any help, just ask and we'll be happy to help them use these new features.

                    Cheers
                    Ben
