  • Spring Roo 1.1.3 Released

We’re happy to announce integration the availability of Spring Roo 1.1.3 (download here). Spring Roo is a rapid application development tool for Java, allowing you to create full enterprise applications in just minutes. This new release focuses on extensive support for Cloud Foundry, VMware's open source PaaS service and platform.

The new release features 120 improvements since the 1.1.2 release. Some of the highlights include:
    • Productivity in the cloud: As mentioned above, Roo now provides broad Cloud Foundry integration. With Cloud Foundry and Roo you can build normal Java-based applications (complete with normal MySql persistence etc) and have these hosted in our groundbreaking new developer cloud. The Roo integration allows you to build, deploy and manage Cloud Foundry applications directly from Roo shell. Learn more in the separate announcement post.
    • Shell usability: There have been many usability improvements made in this new release. Apple Terminal users now have the full Roo shell experience, including “flash” message support. We’ve also improved code-assist improved code assist in this release.
    • Primary key enhancements: You can now use composite primary keys with the Data-on-Demand and Integration Test features, allowing automatic testing of a wider range of application entities (this will of particular benefit to those using Roo’s incremental database reverse engineering).
    • Process improvements: The Roo project now operates a continuous integration build server so that you can enjoy the latest snapshot builds of both Roo and its major add-ons. This allows the community to more easily try out new fixes and features.

As usual, we’ve updated the upgrade notes to help you move from any prior Roo version to this new release. These notes as well as the reference guide are also included in the download ZIP. Please note Roo 1.1.3 is also included in SpringSource Tool Suite (STS) 2.6.1.SR1.

Spring Roo has a very active community and responsive development team, so if you have any questions on this new release, please feel free to ask the Spring Roo engineering team on the Community Forum. You'll also find us on Twitter - either follow @SpringRoo or just include #SpringRoo in your tweets.

We hope you enjoy this new release.

A note to roo users - roo 1.1.3 suffers from a bug which effectively makes the release useless if you use generated mvc controllers. You are well advised to skip this release. It is not possible to modify a generated controller in version 1.1.3 without breaking all roo round-tripping of generated code and generation of new code.

    See ROO-2396 for details.
