  • Use cases for Delayer

Can anyone provide a description of a real use case for a Delayer? I'm looking at upgrading it to 2.0 idioms, and it seems to make no sense, so I would like to remove it and put the useful stuff (backoff after a retryable exception) in a persistent queue channel. The original discussion of the implementation had very little detail on use cases, the discussion seemed to turn on how Camel does it, which is different. Why would I want to introduce an endpoint in a pipeline that simply delays messages?

The only situation that I can think would be test scenarios, e.g. dummying up a stub of known systems, the target system has delay of x. or testing what happens when messages are delayed (e.g. correct timeout/retry behaviours)

That's all I came up with, and that can be hacked with a simple ChannelInterceptor, which I'm not sure we would even want to include in the framework. It wouldn't be part of your production configuration anyway.
