  • Error handling

I'm trying to implement a robust error handling on this flow:
http inbound gateway -> webservice outbound gateway -> jms outbound adapter

The client that triggers the http inbound gateway should get back a 200 response code or any http error code based on whether the message flowed successfully till jms or not.

There are two failure points here : the webservice could be down or the JMS engine could be down. I want to handle these errors and report it back as http error code.

    Few questions:
    1. If all these components ran on single thread (via direct channel), then any exceptions would be propagated back to the http inbound gateway and hence it will reach the client. Correct?

    2. If a polling channel was introduced between the first and the second component, then the errors that occur
during webservice invocation needs to be handled in a different way. In one of the webinar by Oleg, he mentioned that outbound gateways do not have error-channel attribute. I'm not sure the rationale behind that, but if that's the case, how would the error at webservice invocation can be handled and reported back to the client?
