  • DTD validation errors cause spring to fail with no error

I was dealing with an issue on a remote location and found myself having to edit bean configurations over a remote shell connection using VI.

I've made a mistake and used "ref=" instead of "value-ref=" and using vi had no way to validate my DTD.

Unfortunately, I had to spend a great deal of time to figure out what's going on because spring crashed with no error whatsoever.
even when setting log level to debug.

is there a way to provide better visibility to what failed in such case?

    with no error whatsoever
Are you sure? I get the following...

    Crimson
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Attribute "ref" is not declared for element "entry".

    Xerces
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Attribute "ref" must be declared for element type "entry".
