  • Newbie question: How to get spring debug logging on?

    I know, I know... it's a "stupid" question.

However I can't find it in the docs, and I've tried setting DEBUG in log4j.properties etc. but it's just not making any difference - all I get is INFO level.

Can somebody tell me the correct way to enable spring DEBUG level logging? I'm trying to debug some bean config problems.

No matter what I try, it seems to ignore my log4j.properties. I tried setting the commons logging level system property too.

    I found the problem

... commons-logging was not on my classpath so Spring was ignoring my log4j settings for some reason, although there was no info about commons-logging not being found.

Are there docs on how the logging infrastructure works in spring?

AFAIK not, but there is nothing special. Spring uses commons-logging for log output (as you already found out). How to configure it, you can see here
