  • java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/logging/LogFactory

I'm making some small mods to an application that has been around for more than two years and been modified many times with no trouble. The mods I'm making involve changing column names in queries and would not seem to involve Spring at all.

When I start up Tomcat I get the following:
2008-12-22 10:29:43 StandardContext[/OBIS1.1]: Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListe ner
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/logging/LogFactory
    at org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader.<ini t>(ContextLoader.java:139)

The only thing that has changed is that I am using Eclipse Ganymede and the previous support used an older Eclipse. I'm running the app outside of Eclipse so I don't think Eclipse run time pathing is involved.

Commons-logging-1.1.1 is in the WEB-INF/lib directory of the web app.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

I forgot to add that the Spring jar file used by the application is spring-2.0.2.jar
