For XML based declaration, bean definitions are contained in a bean definition file. What is the Spring term for that file? So far I have not seen any particular term other then "bean definition file".

We usually call it an ApplicationContext, although this is not entirely correct since one ApplicationContext can comprise three bean definition files (as you call it in your question).

On the other hand, a bean definition file can result in a BeanFactory or an ApplicationContext, so if you're only using BeanFactories, the term application context is nonsense also...

    I don't know about others.

    regards,
    Alef

I used to call it application context, but now simply call it "IoC container" (being generalised to BeanFactory and ApplicationContext).

        thanks all.

I've been using the term 'bean descriptor', but that casts the shadow of thick frameworks.

When reading the book "Spring in Action" I came across the term "Spring configuration file(s)". Nice and descriptive
