  • Distributing the steps across JVMS

    Hi ,
We have a need where a job has lot of steps. The data that is processed in each step is fairly large , but not as large as to distribute on a grid etc.

All the distribution framework in Spring Batch 2.0 talks about distributed processing of a single step across JVMs.

Is it anyway possible to distribute steps ina job across JVMs?
Terracotta claims to be able to do that very easily .

Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Krishnendu

It's not entirely true that all scalability features are aimed at a single step. If the steps are independent you can run them in a <split/>. Each step could be an RPC call to a remote step instead of the local one. If they are not independent, then nothing will help - you might as well run them in a single VM, since they have to run sequentially anyway.
