  • Batch transaction time out

    Hi All,
    I needed help in figuring out one of the problem am facing wrt spring batch.

    Ours is a batch process where multiple accounts need to be processed as part of batch process.
    So a batch job has been configured to run everyday mid night.

    Job gets invoked and processes the numerous threads it spawns.
    But after all the threads is processed (which can go for hours) and while exiting from the batch we see a MetaDataAccessException resulting while batch is trying to update the step status on the BATCH_STEP_EXECUTION table.

    This is the exception we are getting.
    Have attached the complete stack trace.

    Caused by: org.springframework.jdbc.UncategorizedSQLException : PreparedStatementCallback; uncategorized SQLException for SQL - UPDATE BATCH_STEP_EXECUTION_CONTEXT SET SHORT_CONTEXT = ?, SERIALIZED_CONTEXT = ? WHERE STEP_EXECUTION_ID = ?; SQL state [null]; error code [0];

    We deploy our application on JBoss and we use JBoss transactions for our application (JtaTransactionManager).
    And by we are using the default transaction time out of 5 mins.

    We have created transaction configuration as described in spring batch reference documentation (4.2.1). But didnt help us.

    Can some one please help us out here.

    Thanks.

    Looks like a timeout, but not of a transaction that was started by Spring Batch, probably. Are you starting the Job from an EJB, or other CMT component? If so, just switch that off.
