  • Spring Components offer

There are many frequently repeating parts of application that we are creating every time. For example: forums, mail interface, cms, serach.

Sometimes it's very difficult to adopt existing application. It can be difficult to change design or to add sophisticated security.

The base goal of Spring and IoC is to create a reused code.
It will be very usefull to have these parts (see above) which would be built on Spring.

Therefore I offer to create new section on www.springframework.org - Components where people could upload/download components.

In order to prevent a garbage it would be possible to intoduce some requirements. For example:

    1. Good documentation
    2. UML (optinal)
    3. All components must be in package org.springframework.componnets
    4. Unit tests

It can make Spring more popular and extend Spring community.

    What do you think?

There are regular posts on this forum and the mailing lists from people that have created interesting method interceptors, controllers, ... Many of them are offered by the author for reuse by other Spring users.

It would be interesting to maintain a list of these components. Still, one problem that keeps returning when talking about sharing code is that these mini projects need a home. We could add everything to the Spring sandbox or people could go find shelter for their components.

It can be only list (links) of components with (announcements, short description and ZIP arhive). Each component can have home on sourceforge.net or java.net or something else.

But I see I's not interesting for the most people....

Take a look at spring modules (https://springmodules.dev.java.net/). It "contains modules, add-ons and integration tools for Spring" and it's created by Rob Harrop (Spring Team)

Thanks Costin. It is intended that Spring Modules will be the place where additional integration modules for Spring can be constributed and managed. The reason for this is to avoid increasing the size of the standard distribution unecessarily.

Currently we have just the prototype HiveMind integration but I will be adding in Lucene and OSWorkflow integration plus Jan Machacek (co-author of Pro Spring) is working on JSR-94 support.
