  • Eclipse Update Site

To use the Spring Framework effectively within an Eclipse RCP project, we need to wrap the Spring jars in an Eclipse plug-in. Currently, everyone does this manually for each project. It would be preferable for the Spring framework to maintain an authoritative Eclipse update site with the current version(s) of Spring, so that developers and their projects can use the Eclipse update system. AFAIK, setting up an update site is quite straightforward and could be automated as part of the normal Spring release process.

I would be willing to contribute build scripts to generate the update site, if someone could point me in the right direction. (If I'm going to do this for myself, I might as well contribute my work to the community.) This would be my first contribution to Spring, so I have some questions:

    1. Is this kind of contribution welcome?
    2. Should I use an issue tracker for this suggestion? If so, where/how?
    3. Who is the build-master for official Spring releases?
    4. Are the release scripts publicly accessible, so I can develop patches?
    5. Once I have something to submit (which will be all new code under my personal copyright), what do I need to do to satisfy the Spring license?

    Guidance would be appreciated.
