Hi, I don't know where to put this, so I wanted to write it here.

I'm recently getting back into software development, and before, I always used Spring/Hibernate/Freemarker to develop larger web projects. I always found it to be the fastest, most common sense approach to building web applications.

There's an opportunity to make a non-trivial website (large database, lots of searches, listings, interactivity, etc.), and someone wants to use Joomla instead of the the typical development path.

Now, I don't know much about Joomla, but I'm really hesitate to use an application framework like that for anything, because I wouldn't want to limit my flexibility or being locked into it or not having the local developer support to maintain it should this developer leave the project.

Have you guys had any experiences with it? Any big disadvantages come to light?
