  • Scalability with Spring Application

    Hi,

Could somebody throw light on how "Scalability" issue is handled in Spring. I mean the way bean pooling that happens within say an EJB container for SLSB. Does Spring provide such features??

Yes, Spring supports instace pooling in the style of SLSBs, using pooling target sources. These can apply pooling to any POJO, not just special objects like EJBs. See the AOP chapter of the Reference Manual for an example.

No, you don't need or want instance pooling in most cases. See chapter 12 of J2EE without EJB for a discussion.

To add to what Rod has said, instance pooling is indeed undesirable in many cases given the way in which modern garbage collectors work. For a more scientific explanation check out the GC tuning guide at http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/gc1.4.2/.
